What does yaoi and echi mean?

-alot of ppl mention these when responding to my anime questions and i dont no what they meanYaoi = Male and Male. Gay (sorry if this sounds so derogatory). A GENRE. In anime and manga, the term Yaoi is referred to 18+ anime/manga, usually around male x male relationship, WITH sex. And uncensored. Sensitive Pornograph is an example of Yaoi.



Don't get this confused with Shonen-ai (shonen-ai literally means "boy love" BUT this genre is just IMPLICATIONS and has nothing explicit except kissing between 2 males. Usually based around relationship btwn the 2 characters. 16+). Gravitation is an example of Shonen-ai.



Ecchi = Includes lots of panty shots, breast...SMUT. Slightly explicit scenes but NOT hentai (hentai is porn btw). Usually the male viewers like this, as it is mostly aimed to male viewers. High School of the Dead is an example of an anime with the genre Ecchi.Ecchi is when a manga or anime has lots of sexually implicit stuff intended as a turn-on for the viewers. It does not have to be sexually explicit, although sexually explicit material (which is called hentai) can be considered a subcategory of ecchi. Some examples of ecchi anime shows (which are not hentai) include Rosario + Vampire and Chobits. Although ecchi can be oriented towards female viewers, the vast majority of it is, as one would expect, intended for a male audience.

Ecchi is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the letter "H", the first letter in the word hentai (as spelled in romaji). Ecchi is another way to say "perverted" in Japanese, but its connotation is not as strong as hentai. Anime that contain a lot of sexual humor but no outright pornography are often referred to as ecchi, examples include Love Hina and to a lesser extent Ranma 1/2.

Seriously, yaoi is boy-boy love and runs the gamut from hand-holding and kissing to hard-core sex (the counterpart is yuri; girl-girl love)



Ecchi is smut. Girls in bikinis that explode off off them, up-skirt shots, a peek inside the ladies bath house. We would call it cheesecake here
yaoi = boy x boy love. when 2 guys fall in love rather than a guy and a girl.

echi means something naughty and yaoi it's a term used to talk about gay romance/sex in anime.
