-Well now, this is a hot debate amongst my friends. We are all fans. Some say the English dub was not perfect, but alright, and spent their money on the DVD. They also base their fanfiction writing off it and many have never watched the original Japanese subbed version.
On the other hand...
Some do not like the qualities of the voice actors (in particular they say Tatum stole away Seb's sex appeal and Brina made Ciel sound like a girl) and stick with the Japanese version for their watching and fanfiction inspration. They like the original voices the best and are fine with reading subs.
I was not sure how many of us hold which perspective, and am curious as hell. So, do you go SUB or DUB, and why?
(Another issue this raises is How were you introduced to Kuroshitsuji? That could influence preference, right?)I prefer the SUB to that. I don't know, maybe the english accent sounds too fake? I usually prefer DUB to SUB, but it doesn't matter one way or the other. I was just told to watch it, i started off dub then changed to sub then back to dub. very confusing.
Eh, I'd rather watch narutos or dragonballs
i don't like it...they over did it with the british accent...
Okay I loved the dubbed version of Kuroshitsuji because the Japanese actors sounded the same. It sounded like one actor did every voice character...
Tatum is my time favorite voice actor. i think his role for Sebastian was GREAT! Though personally I would have liked it if he had a tidbit more British in his accent. Brina did not make Ciel sound like a girl. He's 12/13 and isn't that the time when children usually go through puberty? I think both roles were perfect. My favorite voices are Sebastian's and Grell's (Though I don't know who Voiced Grell) i also Write fanfiction and the dub is what I base most of my work off of. I just love the dub and some of the scenes are just too comical too pass up, sure its the same art as the Japanese but the words are totally different! Oh, and I'm not a big fan of sub titles (though I will watch most of the time I have no problem with it per say)
I usually go dub because Yo don'y have to watch the anime a million times (or pause it) to read all the words and to understand the show. I watch the second Season of Kuroshitsuji in sub and I wish I hadn't because it took all the Excitement of season two away. (Spoiler) Now, I don't know if it was due to the fact that Ciel turned into a demon or not (End of spoiler) but it killed my buzz on Kuro!
And What do you mean by introduced like how could they find out? Because there are forums and websites and stuff that you can sign up for and most of them alert you of new anime (Dubbed/subbed) which ever you would prefer at the time or what ever is available.
(Anyway, because i could probably go on forever)
I Hope I Helped :D
Hey, my sister's watched Black Butler and were chanting at me to watch it. I completed season 1 last weekend and really enjoyed it.
I watched it in English Dubbed (cos thats the copy i had). Dubbed or Subbed doesn't bother me really. If an anime comes in eng dub i will watch that over subbed. Only because i tend to read the text wrong and miss half the story :/ But 90% of anime's are subbed so i put up with it :D
I understand why people like subbed over dubbed though. Dubbed refraze and miss out so much dilogue...but in the end the story still gets across and that's all that matters :P
PS: one anime that ruined dubbed for me was Ouran HSHC. I watched the subbed version first, then the english version and the english voice of the main guy annoyed me too much. He was better in Japanese :P
